Doug and Ana met on OkCupid and started a message exchange about a number of common interests, including science and the arts. They met in person for the first time at Zeppelin Hall in Jersey City on September 14th, 2012. On their third date, Doug took Ana pumpkin and apple picking, and their bond quickly grew after a lively discussion on the difference between science and magic. They moved in together in August of 2013 and discovered that they really enjoyed doing domestic things together like baking bread and gardening. Currently, they live in Austin, TX with their two kitties, Phantom and Roary. They regularly take part in Austin’s arts and brewing opportunities, often playing board games at the latter.
Doug is a musician and educator working at a charter school in east Austin. Since moving to Austin he has played with several bands ranging from afrobeat to conch shell choirs. In his free time he really enjoys brewing beer and tinkering with things like automated cat toys for when no one is home.
Ana is pursuing a PhD in psychology at the University of Texas. She has little free time at the moment, but when she can find the time she enjoys making art, doing crossword puzzles, and hiking. One hobby she always makes time for is baking. Since discovering the Great British Bake Off, she has been baking more and exploring new kinds of baked goods (mostly classic British desserts).
